Where is Your Time and Money Spent?

You can tell what a person truly loves by the amount of time and money they spend on it.  No one is going to waste their time or money on anything they deem worthless.  What is amazing is the amount of time and money people spend on things that are temporary.  An example of this is sports. How often have people chased the sports dream only to be sidelined by injury or the reality that there are so many better players than them?  It is amazing how much time is spent in practice, games, and special teams not to mention the disruption of family life and the amount of money spent chasing after something that is so temporary.  This illustration could be true for those climbing the corporate ladder.  How much time and effort is spent fulfilling the corporate bottom line that in the end gives you a gold watch and a pat on the back at the expense of family relationships and personal health?

So many people, even those who call themselves Christians, are chasing temporary things.  When the real life issues occur, they then wonder why their life feels meaningless and they are unable to cope.  You see, neither another practice nor another promotion will provide healing or direction.  They find themselves in a place where what they spent their time and money on is like sand through their fingers.

What if they had invested their time in the eternal things?  Would things be different?  Imagine if all the time spent on these temporary pursuits were spent in pursuing a relationship with God?  What kind of abundant life would a person have if they spent hours in Bible study, worship, fellowship with other believers, and prayer?  If I must spend hours practicing and participating in my temporary efforts to be better, surely the same applies for my spiritual endeavors. Yet, how many see it that way? If a chart were made of the time and money too often the pursuit after the temporary would far exceed the eternal. As a result, they wonder why they have no spiritual strength.
The church born in the book of Acts understood the importance of daily discipline to grow spiritually.  They read the word of God daily, they met together for worship and prayer.  As a result, the Spirit of God filled them, miracles occurred, people’s needs were met, and people’s lives were changed for eternity.
Where are you investing your time and money?  Have you checked the real cost? You might find you are bankrupt spiritually.
