You Are a Winner

If you are as old as I am and a child of the Church of God, Anderson, IN, you grew up singing the songs of Charles W. Naylor.  One of his songs that resonates in my memory is entitled, "I'm on the Winning Side."  The first verse and refrain are below:

 Along the way of life are many foes
That daily war against my soul;
But constant victory
My Savior gives to me
As I press on to the goal.

Refrain:
On the winning side, I am on the winning side,
I’m on the winning side with Jesus;
Though hot may be the fray,
My soul can boldly say,
I’m on the winning side with Jesus.

The Apostle Paul understood this clearly as he wrote in Romans 8:28-39.  In the passage, Paul asks a series of rhetorical questions to emphasize the fact that if God is for us in our lives, we don't need to worry about anything else bringing harm to us.  If God gave us his most precious possession in Christ , won't he graciously give us all things?  If God is the ultimate judge in life, what human can condemn us?  Shall trouble or hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or the sword separate us from the love of God?

No amount of condemnation, earthly hardship or spiritual attack will be able to separate us from the love of God seen in Jesus.  Paul reminds us in verse 37 "in all these things we are more than conquers through him who loves us."  With this in mind, as followers of Christ, we too can sing "I Am on the Winning Side."

Come see us Sunday.  We will be talking about that...
