In Joshua 3 we read the account of the Israelites who, under the leadership of Joshua, are finally preparing to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Due to the disobedience of their fathers, the tribe had been wandering in the desert wilderness for 40 years. Now they had finally come to the place where they were to receive the promise given to Abraham so long ago of a land for them to call their own.
Joshua commands them to "Consecrate themselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." In other words, God is going to do a miracle. All they have to do is follow the ark of the covenant carried by the priests. Where they must follow is through the Jordan River. In verse eight it says "when you reach the edge of the Jordan's water." Unfortunately, this is the place where many people stop moving toward miracles in their lives. They live at the edge of what God wants to do in their lives. They are unaware that the next step of faith will place them into a miracle. The reason many people miss the miracles of God is that they never put their feet in. They stand on the edge of obedience. When they fail to step forward and the miracle doesn't happen, they back off from the edge. Yet, as this story shows us, it isn't until the priest stepped into the water that a dry path was made for all of Israel to cross over.
What miracle are you needing in your life today? You see, you are ready for a miracle when your situation is beyond your abilities and control. Are you ready to get off the edge of obedience to God and trust him to bring a miracle to you?
Come see us Sunday. We will be talking about that.
