Daniel 3 shows us a tremendous example of true commitment to God. In this chapter we read of three Hebrews in captivity in Babylon. The law required they bow down to a huge image of the king. If anyone refused, they would immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace. They refused to bow to the image, fully aware of the consequences. The king said to them, "What god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"
With full confidence in God they responded, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up."
They are thrown into the furnace, but they do not die. The fire did not harm them, nor was their hair singed, or robes scorched, nor did they even have smell of fire on them. God walked with them in the fire.
They were willing to face the fire rather than deny their Lord. We need more people who are willing to walk through the fire for the Lord. Why? True commitment will cause people to take notice. Be assured that those without commitment to God will by annoyed by our actions. The king certainly was with the Hebrew men. They will also test our commitment to see if we are truly sold out.
We stand at a crossroads in these times that test our faith...will I stay commited or will I give in? If you are facing the choice to deny or stay faithful remember this...
“Until I am committed, there is hesitancy, a chance to draw back. But the moment I definitely commit myself, then God moves also, and a whole stream of events erupt. All manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings, persons, and material assistance which I could never have dreamed would come my way begins to flow toward me the moment I make a commitment.”
The Hebrew men understood this fully. How about you?
Come see us Sunday. We will talk about that.
