Stressed Out?

Someone has said, “It is the age of the half read page, quick hash and mad dash, bright night, nerves tight, plane hop, brief stop; brain strain, heart pain; cat naps til the spring snaps and the fun's done."  Why, in a day and time with so many time-saving devices, are we pressed for time and always stressed out? Statistics show us that stress levels in people's lives are at all-time highs.  An old proverb states that you will break the bow if you always keep it bent. So it is with our lives if we are constantly under stress.  There will come a time we will snap. Do you feel you are there?

In a world of compromise we are told to dope up, drink up and fill our lives with countless distractions to help with our stress.  These temporary fixes in the long run can add to our stress.  Worry and stress in our lives are like a dog chasing its tail.  Stress causes us to worry, that worry causes us to stress even more.
One doctor commented said, "Worry effects the heart, glands, and digestive tract and the whole nervous system.  I have never known a man who died of over work, but many from stress."

The children of God are not left without direction in this area.  Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us that if we will trust God, lean on his wisdom, and acknowledges his presence in all of our life, God will make our way clear.
As we continue the series, Standing with Conviction While Swimming in a World of Compromise, we will look into how Christians should stand with conviction in the area of worry and stress and live victoriously over them.

Looking for you this Sunday,

Pastor Jeff
