If I am correct, those of you reading this blog are believers in Jesus Christ.  Some time in your past you were drawn by God’s Holy Spirit and confronted with the truth of Jesus Christ.  Responding to the Spirit’s leading and believing the truth of God’s word concerning Christ’s sacrifice for your sins and victory over death, you became a follower of Christ’s.  As we celebrate Easter this Sunday, it is good for us to ask ourselves the question, “What if Christ had not been raised from the dead?”  How would our lives be different?
In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul ponders this question reminding his readers that if Christ has not been resurrected, then our preaching is useless and so is our faith.  We are found to be false witnesses by saying Christ arose when he didn’t.  Our faith is futile and we are still in our sins.  Moreover,  everyone who had faith in Christ that has already died is lost.  Paul, states, “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.”
The fact is, our Christian faith hinges on the resurrection.  If Christ did not rise from the dead, we are just following another religious martyr in history.  The resurrection legitimizes Christ’s death on the cross for our sins.  Without Easter morning, we have no forgiveness for sin.  We have no hope for life beyond what we know now.  Death, man’s ultimate enemy, truly is the ultimate victor in life.  Without the resurrection, we are destined to living in an ever-increasing corruptible world destined for destruction.

How would our lives be different?  It is a terrible thought.  But as we gather together this Sunday, the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:20 says, “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead…”  The cry of the early church still proclaims the truth…”He is risen….He is risen indeed!”

See you Sunday,
Pastor Jeff
