Overcoming in the Last Days

Harold Camping caused quite a stir this year in predicting the world would come to an end May 21st.  Obviously that didn't happen.  Simple biblical instruction found in Matthew 24:36 proves Camping and others are wrong in trying to pinpoint a specific day. "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."  In this passage Jesus warn us to watch out that deceivers will come in his name--they have since Christ's ascension.  The key for all believers is to be ready whenever he comes.  We are not to be sitting around predicting and interpreting every world event as a sign of the end times, but we are to be about the Lord's work.  Jesus says as much in Matthew 24:46-47, "Who then is the faithful and wise servant , whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household...It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.."

Undoubtedly, Christ's coming is closer than ever.  The intensification of those events that Jesus said would occur cannot be ignored.  As the children of God, we should not be in dread of these days but living each day in anticipation of the Lord's return for his church. Therefore, it doesn't matter what Camping or any self-proclaimed prophet might predict or what day it will occur.  We, like John in Revelation, can say, "Come, Lord Jesus."

This Sunday we will begin exploring the Lord's message to the seven churches in Revelation to prepare for his coming.  We will see what it takes to "stand firm to the end" and receive the rewards "to he who overcomes."

See you Sunday,
Pastor Jeff
